The Looking and Thinking Big books have the same pictures and questions but the book has been expanded to A3 size (twice the normal size) to promote group work. The book has been designed so that while the pupils can view the large picture the teacher can see a smaller version of the picture and all the questions.
Looking and Thinking was designed to develop reasoning skills in which illustrations hold clues to help answer questions. A picture page is followed by a page of multiple-choice questions and a second page of harder questions.
A sample unit consisting of a picture page and two question pages can be viewed by clicking here.
For pupils experiencing problems with writing, the A questions will probably prove more acceptable, while more able pupils will find the B questions more challenging.
However it is a very adaptable series and many teachers start the lesson as an oral activity before possibly finishing with written answers.
Feedback has shown EAL pupils have great success with the activities.
