Looking and Thinking was designed to develop reasoning skills in which illustrations hold clues to help answer questions. A picture page is followed by a page of multiple-choice questions and a second page of harder questions.
A sample unit consisting of a picture page and two question pages can be viewed by clicking here.
For pupils experiencing problems with writing, the A questions will probably prove more acceptable, while more able pupils will find the B questions more challenging.
However it is a very adaptable series and many teachers start the lesson as an oral activity before possibly finishing with written answers.
Feedback has shown EAL pupils have great success with the activities.
